TRON Energy Price Update — Week of August 10–16, 2026
Rental prices fell to a volume-weighted 1.85 TRX per 65k-energy (1-hour), spot range 24–42 SUN/energy; burn-equivalent stays ≈6.5 TRX per transfer, so the rent-vs-burn discount widened to ~71% — the widest in our series.

Burn vs rent vs stake — the decision table
| Option | Cost per transfer | USD | Savings | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Burn TRX (default) | ~6.5 TRX | ~$2.15 | Zero setup, highest cost | Default when no energy available |
| Rent energy (1h) | 1.85 TRX | ~$0.61 | ~71% cheaper than burn | Best for 1–20 transfers/day |
| Stake TRX | 36k TRX capital | ~$11.9k | Cheapest at scale | Only for 50+ transfers/day |
Staking ≈36,000 TRX (~$11,880) generates ~65,000 energy/day, i.e. one standard USDT transfer per day. Cheapest at scale, worst for capital efficiency at low volume.
Market analysis
Price action
The volume-weighted 1-hour rental price fell 5.1% WoW to 1.85 TRX per 65,000 energy (~29 SUN/energy). Intraday spot ranged 24–42 SUN. The 30-day rate dropped to 118 TRX (18 SUN/energy), the lowest long-duration price since the series began tracking in July.
Supply side
Supply expanded faster than demand this week. A new P2P order-book venue launched on Aug 14, and two existing providers increased their delegated-energy limits after the post-Pyrrho upgrade confirmed no staking-parameter changes. Estimated rentable energy across the ten tracked venues rose ~6% WoW. (Venues are tracked in aggregate; Tronreview commentary stays vendor-neutral.)
Demand side
Demand grew with usage: weekly energy consumption +3.4% to 63.1B units. New-recipient USDT transfers (131k energy) remained a structural demand driver as USDT holders grew ~300k. Demand is price-insensitive at current levels — even at the week’s peak spot of 42 SUN, renting is ~40% cheaper than burning.
Burn vs rent vs stake
The decision table is now extremely lopsided: renting (1.85 TRX) vs burning (6.5 TRX) is a ~71% saving; staking costs ~36k TRX capital per transfer/day (~$11.9k), which only makes sense for exchanges or 50+ transfers/day operations. For anyone doing 1–20 transfers/day, renting remains the dominant strategy.

Outlook
Expect continued compression toward the 1.6–1.7 TRX band for 1-hour rentals as marketplace competition matures. Watch corridor-flow effects around end-of-month settlement — if they shift, energy demand patterns may change quickly. TRX at $0.331: a sharp TRX move would mechanically change USD-denominated rental costs even if SUN-denominated prices hold.
